“vignette design”

About a month ago, I quietly added another link to a very special blog that I absolutely LOVE. OK, not just love, but am completely obsessed by and obsess over daily! I know, me, obsessed with something? So out of character…

Vignette Design

The site is called Vignette Design and is written by Delores, an uber-talented interior design consultant in Northern California. It all began with the very first post I read; it was all about these wicker chairs. It was posted at 9:15 AM on a Saturday in June and by 10:00 AM that same Saturday, I was at the Cost Plus World Market, buying the chairs. Actually, make that plural, Markets, I had to go to both the store on Scottsdale Rd and the other on Camelback Rd to get all 6 of the chairs I needed (needed – not wanted!) for my patio.

I went back and read through older posts and found out about an online store that Delores loves called Timeless Settings … you guessed it, I’ve purchased a boatload of stuff from the store, including this tray and a few of these baskets.

Timeless Settings

Last week, Delores put up a gorgeous post about her own obsession, the glass-front Sub-Zero refrigerator.

These are just two of the many drool-worthy photos. And yes, I found the precious milk bottles, pictured below, online and am anxiously awaiting their arrival from UPS.

Vignette Design

Just two days ago, after being blown away by her series of “kitchen vignettes”, I did the unthinkable – I moved the Cuisinart, KitchenAid, and Vita-Mix off the kitchen counter to finally make my own vignettes! The appliances are currently in the storage room in the garage until I can figure out what to do with them and somehow make it work.

Tossed aside machines above, my new vignettes below…

I stole several of her ideas; the tart tin atop the candle holder, a bird’s nest on a fancy plate, a pretty little glass filled with fresh herbs, and most importantly – little table lamps on the counter. Doesn’t it look good? It took me ages to find the right pieces for the counter. I looked at table lamps from here to there and finally found ones that I simply fell in love with. And they look great next to everything else. As I told Delores, I have no idea how long this will last since I use one or more of those machines daily, but it sure is pretty in my kitchen right now. Don’t you agree?

I’ve been so inspired by Delores, that my creative juices are seriously flowing, check out the craft project I undertook in tomorrow’s post (I am not a craft person, so this was a stretch!) Thank you, Delores, you make me “ooh and aah” daily!

Great post!! I know Delores personally and she is even warmer and more inviting than her lovely home. She is talented and very humble about her talents. She is also a very generous soul!! So nice to see such a lovely tribute to her talents. Kathysue

um….wondering how I could get away with any of this on my boat? It looks peaceful and lovely and now you’ll have lots more folks spending lots more time in the kitchen, which I’m sure, will = lots more fun! Good stuff, Linda and yes, once you set your mind to things, look out…you’re off and doing it in no time flat! I love that spirit! xoxo

Hi Kathysue, thank you for your nice comment. I just finished reading your Inside-Out Living post as your ode to Delores, so great! If she were my friend and I had a chance to visit her home in Asti – I would never want to leave! And I can tell from her writing that she is a wonderful and warm person, so nice to have my thoughts confirmed by her friend! Best wishes…

Thank you Delores, the inspiration continues… I just purchased the round “pure butter” AND the rectangular “cheese”… when they arrive, I will be over the moon!

Nancy, if anyone could getaway with vignettes on a sailboat, it would be you, my ever stylish friend! Sending you, Ethan, and Zada love and kisses. xoxoxo

hmmm, I want those candle holders!
Love your inspiration, those are the windows I wanted in my dining room but the builder had other ideas……….:(

Didn’t see the candle holders on that site?

Hi Janie, if you are talking about the mercury glass candle holders in my island vignette pictures, I can help you. I pick them up any and everywhere I see them; from Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel, to Tuesday Morning, T J Maxx, and Marshalls. I have a bit of a problem with mercury glass… I have more than 35 candle holders (pillars and tapers) and about 2 dozen other pieces (bowls, footed compotes, orbs, pillars, little birds…). But I’ve moved on, now I’m only going to have problems with the wonderful items I see on Vignette Design!

Linda, your vignettes look lovely! I also love the ruffled runner on your island. By the way, I made your spathetti alla Bolognese the other night. Delish! Thank you.
